Entering the Library

The Howard University libraries and the Moorland-Spingarn Research Center are open to the Howard community (student, faculty, staff, and alumni) and the public. However, borrowing privileges depend on your university or library affiliation.

Howard alumni and the public are welcome to do research and attend events at the libraries. To enter any Howard library, you will need a valid and current government-issued ID. You may also be asked to sign in when entering.

Please note, that as a private institution situated, Howard has the legal right to bar anyone from any or all parts of its premises. Disruptive or inappropriate behavior of any kind may result in suspension of visitor access.

Accessing Library Materials

Only current Howard University faculty, staff, students, and patrons affiliated with partnering consortia may borrow books from Howard University Libraries. Borrowing patrons must present a valid University ID. Members of the public and alumni cannot borrow Library materials.

 

Internet Access

Visitor wireless internet access is available across campus and within the libraries. Library online content and databases can be accessed while on campus. A valid Howard ID is needed to log in for access to licensed library online content and databases while off campus.

 

 

Computers

The Undergraduate Library has a computer lab, operated by ETS, for Howard student, faculty, and staff use. Students, faculty, and staff have priority when computers and other library resources are in high demand.

Electronic Resources

Licensed electronic resources are available from computers located in the libraries. However, some databases are restricted to Howard University faculty, staff, and students. If off campus, please use Live Chat if you have questions about a specific online resource.

My Library Account

  1. Click on the above link and select Network ID
  2. Use the same information you use to log into your HU email account
  3. Remember: You cannot view online resources in their entirety without logging into your My Library Account with your University credentials
